Rules
- There will be overall male and female winners, plus age groups
for each: open (under 40 years), masters (40-49) and grandmasters
(50+). If, after the second race of the series the number of entrants
warrants it, additional 10 year classes will be created. To avoid
duplication of awards, overall winners will not be eligible for group
awards.
- Participants may run as many of the series races as they wish,
but only the top three 50K and top two 50 mile results will be used for
the final tally. A runner must complete at least two events to win
their age class. Entry into the series does not guarantee entry into
any race in the series; each race has its own fees and rules.
- Scoring will be as follows: 50 points for first place, 40 for
second, 30 for third, 20 for fourth, 10 for all other finishers.
Scoring for the overall competition and age classes will be done
separately. If there are fewer than 5 finishers either overall or in an
age class, the scoring will be: 10 points for last place and 10
additional points for each runner beaten (for example, with three
finishers: 30 points for first, 20 for second, 10 for third).
- Volunteering at any race in any UMTR series will be awarded 25
points, which may be
substituted for the lowest score (both overall and in age class) of a
completed 50K race. This may be done only once by a runner during the
season. It is the responsibility of the entrant to notify the series
director of their volunteering within three weeks or by the next race,
whichever is later.
- Should any runner complete every race in the series, he or she
will receive special recognition. A finish of the Lean Horse Hundred
will be counted as a finish of the Half-Hundred, with the finish time,
not the 50 mile split time, used for scoring. The Superior Sawtooth 100
Mile fifty mile split and Superior Trail 50 Mile will be scored
separately; a runner need finish only one of these to have run every
race. Finishers of the Wild Duluth 100K will receive 10 points
counting as a finish of the Wild Duluth 50K, but their scores will not
be included in the calculations of the scores in the 50K.
- Ties in scoring at the end of the season will be decided by the
series director by head-to-head race comparison or by any other method
the director chooses. The director reserves the right to disallow any
score deemed unfairly received.
- If a runner changes age class during the season, all of his or
her scores will be included in the age class entered when signing up
for the series.
- There is no retroactive scoring; only races completed after
entering the series will be scored.
